I promise to change a few things about this section, especially the spelling!! I'll try not to go on too long. I just thought you might like to know something about me.

My real name is John. I never really had a proper DJ name until it came to creating this site. I wanted everything to stay as anonymous as possible, so that no one I know could laugh at my writing ability. I chose Recess though (just in case) because of my initials, which when put together make Recess , sort of...

Julie (my girlfriend) says it makes something else, but I'm not gonna tell you what, in case it starts to catch on!!!!

Now, I've been asked alot over the past year or so of some photos of me. Here's one. Eek, I'm going bald!

I'm 26 and pass my time when not Dj'ing working at a post production facility as the online editor (using Avid). The main thing you might have seen that I've done is Hooked on Fishing (with Paul Young) which plays out on the Discovery Channel in the UK, and on a lot of cable channels in the US and Asia alledgedly.

Being in love takes up a lot of time too! I know that's soppy as hell, but if she accesses this page and sees that, I'll have a fun night!!

After a long time off injury wise, I'm finally back playing squash too for David Lloyd in Glasgow. It's great, I'm enjoying something other than Dj'ing, and it's not unhealthy!

I got started Dj'ing when my friend moved to Holland to play hockey. He'd started Dj'ing a few years earlier, and had accumulated an impressive collection of tunes. Figuring when he moved, that he'd stay away the rest of his life, he wanted to sell the records and make sure that they went to a good home. I'd always secretly wanted to be a DJ, ever since I heard Sasha in Amnesia on one of the Radio 1 Essential Mixes - and jumped at the chance. The rest is pleasant history. I bought the two decks and mixer through the classified ads, and practiced day and night, skipping college so I could get home and perfect a mix. And all that practice paid off.

I used to be a drummer in a rock band, so I found I had a head start on everyone else I knew had started, because having a basic knowledge of beat structure can REALLY help. So all I had to do was learn how to perfect beat matching, then choose the right records, and right mix points...... Simple.(?)

I made tapes up for a few people including my girlfriend, but although they all told me I was good, it wasn't until I got one of my tapes played at the bar I work in, and the manageress asked me if I wanted to do some nights on the decks, that I figured I may not be crap after all.

So it started from there. Just helping out the main DJ (Mark) on the big showcase nights has catapulted me into playing in front of a drunken mob. That led to one of the customers in the pub asking me to do the warm up slot at his club, then the main set there, then the bugger sold it! But being at this pub has taught me the true maxim of "it's not what you know, it's who you know" the amount of contacts I've made in this place is astounding. I've got a few club gigs lined up this month on top of my Friday residency, and if I can manage the time off from trying to find an editing job, I should have some fun.

Ironically enough though, I got the job at the bar when Graham went to play hockey in Genoa, so I guess it should really be him that worked his way into being a DJ through there. Oh well, I'm a great believer in fate, and it was obviously meant to be this way.

I don't know how to describe my mixing style, really what I hope it comes down to is how the records are best suited together is how I'll mix them. I tend to favour long overlaps though, which has improved my ability to adjust the records to keep them in time. As I said before, I use the kill controls to try and keep the mixes as seamless and un-noticeable as possible - I don't like slamming two tunes together just because I like them both.

the club I used to love, is/was The Tunnel Club in Glasgow. It's just been sold though, and everything went a little ka-ka for a while, started playing R+B instead of thumpin' stuff - shame really. I loved it when you first open the big brass doors leading to the stairway down to the dance floor. The smell of Red Bull, the heat, and the pumping bass that swamps over you, is just incredible. Julie laughs at me coz I walk around with this insane grin on my face all night. It's a good thing I don't take drugs, I'd smile so much, my face would fall off! I guess this is my ultimate ambition. To do a set, prime time, in The Tunnel.

My favourite Dj's are Sasha , Oakenfold and John Digweed Out of all the DJ's I've seen, Sasha is by far the most awe-inspiring of them all. Between tune control of the crowd and just 'presence' - he gets my vote.

Equipment wise I use two Technics 1210 turntables with Numark 'Carl Cox' carts - a Pioneer DJM 600 mixer, and Technics RP1210 headphones. Don't think I'll need to upgrade for a while, eh?

One last thing, if you're wondering why I've been vague about a lot of stuff, like where I work, it's because I want to keep this as anonymous as possible. There are a lot of nut cases out there, and until I feel it's safe to release a bit more info, I'll stick to my guns. But, if you do want to know a little more about what makes me tick, click HERE .

Nice talking to you, check back sometime, I'm constantly trying to do more stuff with this site.

C.ya in the booth sometime. Recess.

Hehe, click it, if you're a fan of Kevin Smith stuff like me, you'll love all this
